There Is No Way Around Your Hair Tangling

Hair tangles. There is no way around it.

But, the best thing to do is to make sure you take care of your hair to prevent extremely curling and matting. We’ve all had those moments where we unintentionally neglect our hair whether it be in a protective style or maybe you’ve been wearing headscarves to skip doing your hair every morning.

Then, once you have the opportunity to get your hair done, you’re wondering what happened. Yes, it has happened to us all.

What is Detangling?

Detangling is gently separating hair strands, removing any knots and shed hair. Detangling can be quite a big task especially for those with curly and long hair.

Hair Types and Detangling

It’s good to classify a type of hair, so you’ll know exactly what kind of hair you’re working with. It’s also good to know what type of products work best for your hair and the kind of maintenance your hair may require.

Hair types are important because many different factors make up the kind of curl. Although someone can have the same curl type as yourself, they may have a different density, porosity, and lengths.

Are there a total of four hair types: Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, and Type 4. Type 2 to 4 are broken down into subcategories of A, B, or C. Hair that is type 1 is entirely straight hair with no form of waves. Type 2 is wavy hair that has less defined curls but curved as in an “S” shape.

Type 3 is curly hair with the curls much more defined with spiral coils. You can find styles of a corkscrew curl pattern. Type 4 hair is the tightest, most course type category of a coil type. Type 4 is known to be the hardest hair to manage because of the tight texture and the need for a lot of moisture when dealing with the hair. The shrinkage is real when it comes to those with Type 4 hair.

To add, it is possible to have combination hair. You can have type 3C and type 4A hair. It more about your hair and the hair products your hair needs to thrive.

Reasons to Detangle Your Hair

If you were like me YEARS ago, you probably didn’t understand that detangling is something that is very important.

Yes, I washed my hair and conditioned it, but it was still tangled. I am here to say that detangling is an essential part of your hair regimen. Yes, it takes time, and yes it’s draining, you may or make not break a comb (you shouldn’t), but if you want longer and healthy hair, this is a sacrifice that you must make.

Here are reasons why you should detangle your hair:

  • Preventing your hair from matting. Matted hair is the worst. You tend to lose more hair when trying to untangle it.
  • Not wanting dirt to stay in the knots of the hair. Dirt tends to remain in tangled knots. This is why bacteria and dirt tend to grow in people’s hair because they don’t wash and untangle the knots.
  • Promote healthier hair to thrive and grow
  • Preventing breakage to your hair
  • Retain length.

Herbal Essences Hello Hydration from Clairol is a must-have for dry, curly hair or hair that is greatly in need of moisture. I cannot do without it, the shampoo and conditioner both leave hair soft and much easier to comb through and manage. Sadly, Clairol barely has a presence in South Africa these days and so I am buying my products from overseas. The herbal essences range was voted the number one shampoo and conditioner in the UK for a few years in a row, it’s about time we are able to buy it from stores locally.

Omg, I absolutely love this topic and for this reason, there are so many attributes for the topic we call detangling… first off coming from a back round of thick coarse hair. I learned a lot about my hair and that is why I became a cosmetologist. Another thing is before a person starts to add products etc he or she needs to find out what’s going on with their chemistry because what’s works for one person may not work for another. Moving forward when we talk about detangling products period we need to know what the ingredients are first. Yes, alcohol is one of the major ingredients we are all trying to stay away from on a day to day basis. I personally and professionally would say not to weigh the hair down with a lot of detangling products it will, in turn, weigh your natural hair down and leave unwanted residue. Especially for that natural sistas that commonly twist their hair on a daily basis.

-My remedy for detailing is finger part ur hair in 4 sections
    – use a really thick consistency conditioner (Queen Helen. The conditioner) you can get it from Sally’s it’s decently priced.
    – grab decent size portions in ur hand and lay it on in each section
    – if you have extremely thick hair please do subsections to maximize ur product
    – let the conditioner sit on ur hair for about 15-20 minutes. You can work it in and pull through your hair.
    – with a wide tooth comb start from your ends and work your way up to the root.
If it’s not loosening up put on a plastic cap to develop some heat
    – once you use a wide tooth comb if you have any other kinks please use an Afro comb to get a full comb through from root to end.
    – Next, rinse your hair with Luke warm with high pressure.
    – rinse completely.
    – now you can comb through easily
    – now you can shampoo and condition with ease

This works for adults and children.

    Have a happy hair day

Detangling my hair is the reason I dread doing my hair sometimes. Sometimes I hate wash day! A most important tip I can say when detangling my own hair it using some detangler my go-to product is more moisture. It instantly gives my hair slip and allowed the knots to be easily removed without feeling like I am yanking my hair out. I would definitely recommend this product to everyone especially if you have thick 4b/4c hair like mine!

This article is something not many people tend to touch! We don’t realize how important it is for us to detangle our hair because not everyone was taught the right reasons we must do it. I have very thick hair so my hair gets tangled very easily. So just knowing that it can promote growth and all that good stuff is actually motivating!!! I have tried the Shea Moisture and Aunt Jackie’s both good products. Kind of expensive but they are worth it! I must try the other 2 to see how it makes my hair react.

These are some great tips on detangling. I use the Mane ‘N Tail Detangling Spray while why hair is still wet, then I use a wide tooth comb and start with my ends work my way up. The Shea Moisture is good, I have tried it in the past. I have very coarse hair so the Mane ‘N Tail is really my go to.

I absolutely love herbal essences hello hydration in the blue bottle. I have used this as a detangler for years. It has great slip and you can always find it on sale. I also used it as a pre-poo. It’s very moisturizing. Sometimes I add a little olive oil if I feel my hair needs something a little extra.
