Beychella: How Beyonce and Destiny's Child Gave Us Hair & Squad Goals

Bey Fly for Beychella

Hey hair moguls and hair slayers! Can I ask you one question? Where were you on Sunday, April 15th, 2018 at around 1:15 am? I was up watching the live stream of Beyonce's Coachella performance via Youtube. To all my Beyonce fans (Check out this article: Beyonce natural hair) I want to call you to rejoice with me at the incredible performance by any music star since Michael Jackson! In honor of her jaw-dropping performance sing along with me my favorite part of “Run the World” which is, “Boy, you know you love it How we're smart enough To make these millions Strong enough to bare the children Then get back to business" I want to remind you this year's performance has been a year in the making. Bey’s original show was postponed due to her pregnancy last year. She lives up to her lyrics because she has her twins and Blue, a husband, and a successful career.

Bey on The Slay

There is something about a consummate professional who shows you how to step up to the plate, work hard, and solidify your lane. Beyonce's performance is, for me, the most memorable show during Coachella! Due to me having so many favorite parts of the show, I am going to break down how you can wear your favorite hairstyle this weekend. I’m just saying no time like the present to get cute, show up, and then cut up like Beyonce. As you read this article keep in mind how powerful you are. Beyonce shows us how to shape the world with her talent and influence. You can do the same. Wear your favorite style and own it! You know what we have to do! Lets just press play on our Beyonce playlist! I’m dancing and singing off-key already while dabbing Kaleidoscope drops on my snatched edges. The headdress Beyonce wears in the opening of her Coachella show is breathtaking! It is a piece created by Balmain and designed to Beyonce’s specifications. Due to her Nefertiti theme, her stage looks very ornate and goes right in line with her message of royalty and pride. There are tons of tutorials on Youtube to help you create your DIY headdress. I encourage you to use your imagination and get creative.

Inches on Inches of Kinky Waves

During the opening, she changes into a pair of denim shorts and yellow pullover cropped hoodie. She has inches honey, and they look flawless! I’m ready to help you and me both channel our inner Beyonce by replicating this style. Let's get to it!

The front of your frontal is flush with the edge of the cap. The baby hairs should be in front of the cap.

Step #3

Pin the frontal to your styrofoam head

Step #4

Gather all of the hair and tie it up so you can see your lace

Step #5

At the ear area, make sure you leave a little lace on the sides to sew your frontal.

Take your needle through the frontal and the cap

Bring the needle and thread through the loop to secure your extension

Supplies

Step #1

Spray your wig with hairspray before curling

Step #2

Using a wand curler add tight curls Don't worry if your curls look too tight because they will fall over the next few days. Go ahead and break necks in these streets! Later in her performance, Beyonce adds extensions to give her hair a fuller look! You can purchase yours from Private Label Extensions and color the same as you did the bundles above. You can also install clip-ins which I love because of the ease of style. Beyonce has her husband come out on stage to perform "Deja Vu," and by now I'm singing and trying my best to get the choreography down from the video. One of the most epic and memorable moments is when Solange and Beyonce perform together. What would Beychella be without Kelly and Michelle? I’m going to hook your girls up so they can be cute with you. I know you will love them as much as I do. Heck! It’s time for another girls night out.

Cue The Music

When Bey, Kelly, and Michelle's silhouettes rise on that stage, I am about to pass out. Then you think of epic moments, this is one! I know you all are with me when I say we want another Destiny's Child album! They do not disappoint with their performances nor with their hairstyles when they hit the stage.

Kelly Rowland

Kelly came to slay! I am gasping for air when she struts down the stage giving us abs, a mean walk, and a gorgeous ponytail. It is clear she has absolute loyalty to her Destiny's Child group members while her smile shows she is ready to kill the stage. Not only is her style on point her hair is too. I love Kelly's hairstyle choice because it shows us how a simple style can pull together an entire look. The hairstyle Kelly flaunts is so easy to recreate so let's get to recreate it right now. If your hair is natural here’s how to get your ponytail smooth and sleek:

Supplies

Step #1

Shampoo your hair

Step #2

Apply a leave-in conditioner

Step #3

Part hair into four sections

Step #4

Detangle hair with a wide-toothed comb

Step #5

Spray hair with water to make it easier to style

Step #6

Brush through each section and clip up

Step #7

Brush your hair smooth around the parted area of your hairline

Step #8

Apply eco-style gel to hairline and crown of hair

Step #9

Brush your hair smooth until it looks how you want it to look

Step #10

Part your hair in the back beginning at the top of your earlobe

Step #11

Clip your extension in upside down but make sure it’s not at the end of the nape because it will be harder to conceal the tracks

Step #12

Then part about half a finger length higher and install your next clip-in upside down

Step #13

Continue this process until you are at the crown of your head

Step #14

Secure your ponytail with an elastic band

Step #15

Use bobby pins or eco-style gel to tame any loose hair

Step #16

Tie down your hair with a scarf for at least an hour

Step #17

Remove your scarf and use your edge control to smooth down your edges

Step #18

Remove your elastic band and tighten up your ponytail if needed

Michelle Williams

I am always cheering for Michelle. Her presence in Destiny's Child is instrumental to the three-part harmony they showcase at Coachella. She is living her best life with her bae, personal music projects and her history-making performance with her group members. Michelle rocked bangs and wavy locks on stage. You can rock them too. Let get into Michelle's style.

  • Jamaican castor oil
  • Nylon sewing thread
  • Sewing needle

Step #1

Braid two cornrows across the back of the head

Step #2

Part the hair down the center

Step #3

Braid two cornrows, starting at the center part, along with the perimeter of the head

There should be two cornrows on each side

Step #5

Braid a center braid from front to back

Step #7

Braid the rest of the head

Step #8

Sew the ends of the braids in between your braids

Step #9

Sew on a weaving net

Step #10

The tracks should form a “U” shape around the head

Step #11

Once you get to the mid-back of the head, bring the weft up along the perimeter of the head

Step #12

Alternate between sewing the extensions in across the front of your head and still sewing in extensions in a “U" shape

Step #13

Once you are at the crown of your head, sew the extensions in a circular motion

Step #14

Make sure you sew the tracks together as close s possible

Step #15

Continue sewing until you have a tightly closed section

Step #16

Once completed section the hair how you will wear it

Step #17

You can wet the crown of your head with water and sit under the dryer for about 5 minutes if desired

Step #18

Flatiron the entire head using a heat protectant

Step #19

Trim the hair’s ends to get a clean look

Step #20

Trim the bangs by cutting small sections at a time Ok! You look cute! Remember, if you have a closure or a frontal, you will install it instead of sewing the tracks in a circular motion.

Own Your Space

Your hair is a conversation piece. It doesn't matter what you do for a living or who you are hairstyles can have women chatting instantly. Beyonce's performance is about more than hair. It's about the total look. When I say "own your space," it's meant to stop you from being so hard on yourself. You are beautiful, and there's no one else like you. Even if you want hair like Bey's, you can do that but add your twist to it. Step back from the mirror, look at who you are, and commit to being the best version of yourself. Be strong every day by finding your source of strength and motivation. Don't let anyone convince you that you're not beautiful. With your Private Label extensions, you will never look less than flawless. Make sure you tag us in your pics using @privatelabelextensions.
