Products For Your Curly Extensions

8 Products That Will Define Your Curly Extensions

Nervous about getting curly extensions?

Not sure how to keep the curls defined and refreshed?

No worries- we'll help you out! Curly extensions are known as formatting, knotting, and being high maintenance.

Wearing curly extensions can be just as fun as straight extensions, as they are very versatile; you can wear them curly, straight, and other various styles. Maintaining curly extensions is about technique and choosing the right products.

Having a good stash of curly hair products for your extensions will help you tremendously.

Just like how many natural hair lovers have their favorite natural hair products we have some faves when it comes to curly extensions.

These eight hair products for curly hair will help you maintain your curly extensions, and provide longevity.

Shampoo hair

Shampoo

Shampooing your curly extensions removes product build-up and helps the hair to look its best.

You will want to find a gentle shampoo that will not dry the hair out too much. Mielle Organics, Shea Moisture, and As I Am all have mild shampoos that will not strip the hair.

Only apply shampoo to the top of your hair, as the water will help the shampoo travel down the extensions. Depending on how much product build-up is in your hair will determine how many times to shampoo your hair.

Moisturizing Natural Hair

Conditioners & Leave-In Conditioners

Applying conditioner and a leave-in conditioner helps to keep your extensions hydrated and moisturized. Conditioners and Leave-In Conditioners are included in the list of best products for curly hair, especially curly extensions.

Using inexpensive conditioners on your curly weave (Check out this article: how to maintain curly weave) is ideal because you will use it often- and we do not want to waste our favorite hair products.

Some of the conditioners listed below are light enough to double as a leave-in conditioner as well.

Aunt Jackie's In-Control Conditioner

Aunt Jackie's is an affordable hair care line that is for naturally curly or wavy hair.

Apply this product after cleansing your extensions for 3-5 minutes, then rinse out.

Since this product has a thick consistency, it is not ideal to use it as a leave-in conditioner. In my opinion, this is the best conditioner for curly hair, especially for hair like mine.

OGX Coconut Curls Conditioner

OGX Beauty has a broad selection of hair products for curly hair, and they are also inexpensive.

The most popular among their products is the coconut curls line. This product is perfect to use on your extensions to bring your curls back to life.

Apply after shampoo, and rinse.

This conditioner is light enough to use a leave-in. This line also has a Frizz-Defying Curl Styling Milk that goes well with this conditioner.

Aussie Moist Conditioner

The Aussie Moist comes in a 29-ounce bottle for around $5!

This works as a conditioner, a leave-in, and a styler.

Apply after shampooing your extension hair.

This product immediately clumps curls together and provides moisture.

If not using as a leave-in, rinse out extensions after 3-5 minutes.

Aussie Moist helps to detangle (Check out this article: how to detangle matted weave) and helps with manageability.

Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner

Giovanni is an all-natural product, so it is a little bit on the pricier side.

Using this product alone will give your extensions moisture and helps set the curls for styling.

Apply to wet or damp hair and proceed to detangle.

For a moisturizer, mix a little of Giovanni Direct Leave-In and water in a spray bottle.

Use this mixture daily or as needed.

Curl Definers & Creams

Curl defining products, such as wave creams are some of the best products for curly frizzy hair. Curly extensions can become frizzy, but with these products, you won't have to worry too much.

Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie

This product is well known in the natural hair community, and most of you probably already have this in your stash!

The Curl Enhancing Smoothie can be applied to damp hair for curl definition and applied to dry hair for moisture. On wet or damp extensions, apply in sections.

You can use a detangling brush to distribute product from root to tips, or finger detangle.

Only apply a small amount on your extensions while using this product.

Aunt Jackie's Curl La La Curl Defining Custard

This product is a curl defining cream that goes on wet or dry hair.

If applying to wet extensions, apply in sections and detangle with a brush or use your fingers.

Let your extensions air dry, or you can use a diffuser on a low setting.

To refresh curls, apply a small amount and scrunch into hair extensions.

If you want to style your curly extensions in a braid-out or twist-out, apply a small amount to each section before braiding or twisting your hair.

Curls Unleashed Curl Defining Crème

Aunt Jackie's Curl is a line by Organic Root Stimulator (ORS) that specifically targets curly hair and natural hairstyles.

Curls Unleashed Curl Defining Crème will leave your curly extensions hydrated and silky smooth.

You can also use this product if you want to braid-out, coil, or twist-out your extensions for a long-lasting style.

Apply a liberal amount to extensions and finger detangle while applying.

Mixed Chicks Morning After Redefining Foam

Unlike the products mentioned above, the Morning After Refining Foam has a foam consistency.

This product is alcohol-free and will not dry out the hair. Making it a great product to add to your hair regimen.

Use this product to refresh next day curls and to tame frizz and smooth hair.

Divide hair into two half-sections, and apply 1-2 pumps to each half.

The good thing about this product is that no water is needed- fluff and go!

Denman brush

Tools

Now that you have a guide for getting the right products let's not forget about the proper tools for curly extensions.

Finger detangling is the best method for detangling, but if you are in a hurry, or don't have much time, a Denman brush will get the job done.

Use the Denman brush on wet or damp hair, and work from the bottom moving your way up. The brush does a fantastic job of clumping curls.

Also, a wide-tooth comb or a Tangle-Teezer will come in handy.

Keeping a spray bottle filled with water and a leave-in conditioner of your choice is great for an everyday moisturizer.

We hope that we have persuaded you to give curly extensions a try for a versatile look.

Once you learn the ins and outs of maintaining curly hair, you will have fun experimenting with unique styles.

Remember to pick and choose moisturizing conditioners, as well as curl definers.

So, will you be rocking curly extensions this season? We sure hope so!
