Fly Celebrity Spotlight on The Red Carpet

Top Three Flyest Looks on the 2018 Red Carpet

We are in the thick of awards season. Between the NAACP Image Awards, the Grammys, SAGs, and every other award show in between we are celebrating the best of the best from every aspect of the entertainment industry. And we all know that with awards season comes awards show fashion and this blogger is here for it all.

After all, the glitz, the glam, and the excessive use of hairspray are what sets these elite ceremonies apart from your local high school graduation. Keep reading as I debut my top three picks for 2018’s Awards Season best-dressed list.

Red Carpet hair looks

#1 Halle Berry

Ms. Berry left the crowd speechless when she presented Uncle Charlie Wilson with his “Music Makes A Difference” award at the NAACP Awards.

Blessing the red carpet with, her strapless Reem Acra dress resembles some of the laciest lingerie on the market, but she wears it with a sophisticated class and elegance. The fitted number is see-through with a pattern of embroidered black dots and red side panels. The silhouette is a throwback to the classic floor-length gown, complete with a scalloped train.

Halle Berry

Halle is notorious for her short pixie cut. But she switched it upon us and wore a straight hair wig unit complete with a wispy bang and a twist. The twist? An undercut! Because I am currently obsessed with the idea of an undercut I could see it from a mile away. Halle styled her extensions into a bun, which forms right at the top of her ear and cleverly displayed the remnants of her shortcut!

You can do the same without the undercut with a full wig or sew-in.

  • Use a set of styling shears to cut a side bang.
  • Then loosely secure the hair at the midpoint of her hair into a ponytail.
  • Wrap the tail around the base of your loose ponytail and secure it with another hair tie.

#2 Yara Shahidi

Yara Shahidi supported her TV Dad Anthony Anderson at his hosting gig wearing a Vera Wang original.

The black dress featured for the red carpet was a collar coupled with sheer neckline and bustier. The accents made the dress. If you look closely at the construction of the garment after you take in the ruffled shoulder straps that can be worn attached at the armholes or not, the skirt portion of the dress seems like a dismantled long sleeve dress. It gives the effect of a two in one dress combo complete with long sleeves. Yara finished her ensemble with Jimmy Choo shoes and jewelry by Aurate and Kat Kim.

The Grown-ish star completed her look with a soft beat to highlight her natural features. It would have been so typical to do a smokey eye here, but the "less is more" look that the star went for instead, keeps the entire moment from being too dark or harsh. What I love about this look is how it caters to her age group.

She does not look “grown,” but instead age-appropriate and still can compete with the rest of the looks on the red carpet. Celebrity hairstylist Nai'vasha Johnson came to play and styled Yara’s hair in a simple updo that any natural can recreate!

SZA

#3 SZA

The 2018 Grammys also had a few stunning moments on the red carpet. Sizzling singer/songwriter SZA showed to her first Grammys resembling an actual angel carrying a white rose to show support for the Times Up Movement.

When asked to elaborate on her dress deets she let us know that the “Theme is a black princess of Genovia 2018.” At first, I thought, I have no idea what that means. However, I thought back to The Princess Diaries series. You know, the classic Anne Hathaway flick. And she channeled Mia Thermopolis to serve up the definition don’t you think?

SZA donned a gown created by Atelier Versace from their fall 2017 and swapped out the lace option from the movie wedding scene, for feathers! Two design elements that made this dress stand out included two thigh-high slits that I am sure made the dress easy to walk in, and hard to forget. The second, the long sleeves bell leaves that helped accentuated the flowy structure of the dress. Do you think SZA would let me borrow that dress for the weekend? No pun intended.

SZA’s hair was a little tamer than its usual voluminous natural blow out. She added long layers of texture for the occasion, and it instantly made me think of Private Label Extensions’ new loose deep wave texture. Ask your stylist to add in 3 to 4 bundles of this hair type and add layers to frame your face, and you will have this simple look down to a tee!

LA-based makeup artist Samuel Paul used a collection of Glossier products to showcase her flawless face. Now, I did a little research to find the makeup products that helped pulled this beat together.

Get The Look Using:

  • Glossier Super Glow serum and Priming Moisturizer
  • Hourglass Vanish Foundation and Concealer
  • Inglot Mattifying Loose Powder
  • Glossier Cloud Paint in the Beam shade
  • Haloscope in Topaz on her cheeks
  • Boy Brow in a brown shade for her eyebrows
  • NARS Precision Lip Liner in Hyères
  • NYX Lip Cream in Abu Dhabi
  • Glossier Lip Gloss

I would probably stick with my Fenty lip gloss for this, but he still got the job done.

Note: One thing not found when researching this look was the lashes that SZA used! The Dubai lashes would emulate the lashes SZA has in this look.

Lance Gross and wife Rebecca Jefferson channeled Coming to America vibes. We think they were the perfect couple to pull off this look!

“Bec” wore a red lip with her floor-length embroidered dress in pale gold. The colors played off of the gold buttons on Lance’s double-breasted black blazer. Her top knot sat smoothed to perfection, and the hair pulled away from her face displayed her keen features flawlessly.
