The Importance of Marketing

If you’ve been in business long enough, by now, you probably know the importance of marketing. Marketing is so important when it comes to business; it can make or break a company and be the difference between endless sales and a drought of customers.

For those of us in the hair, business marketing is just as important as it is in any other industry.

Marketing is the way a business or brand gets itself out there in and into the consciousness of people. Great marketing can lead to increased sales for your business, and we all know more sales means more money, who doesn’t want that?

There are so many marketing strategies and techniques out there. With everyone marketing their brands primarily in the hair industry, it is crucial that you stand out. In this blog post, we will go over some creative marketing strategies for your hair brand.

Walk It Out with Grassroots Marketing

While the internet is a bomb marketing tool, grassroots marketing is still alive and well and very impactful!

Grassroots marketing is the old fashioned way of getting the word out. Simple tactics like going door to door, word of mouth, passing out flyers at events and public areas all fall under this category.

One of the reasons why grassroots marketing is so impactful is because no one is doing it anymore. Social media has taken over, and everyone is so focused on digital marketing now because that is where people are.

However, let’s never forget that people still exist in person, yes in real life. Sometimes social media can make us unsocial. We are so focused on connecting with people online that we forget to communicate with them in person. There is power in, in person human interactions, that is the power in this type of marketing.

This type of marketing may require some dedicated team members because it may include some walking, driving or both. Make sure everyone’s hair is on point so that you can represent your hair brand well.

Have A Video Contest

Who doesn’t love a contest? There are so many types of contests out there but have you ever thought about having a video contest? Not only are videos one of the most addictive types of content, but they are also one of the easiest ways to go viral.

Having a video contest is a great way to market your hair business while also getting your followers involved.

People love to post, repost and share video content especially if it is funny, enjoyable or useful. The great thing about a video contest is that it markets itself. Every person that participates by sharing or posting a video is allowing you to be visible to their followers and putting your brand in front of new potential clientele.

Host A Free Webinar

Webinars are growing quite popular lately. Many entrepreneurs are finding that they are a great way to build trust with your audience.

Create a webinar where you educate people on a topic related to hair. Doing this will not only help you build trust with your audience, but it will expose you to new audiences. People will see you as someone who is adding value, and if you do well on the webinar, it can establish you as an expert in the field of hair.

Don’t worry about charging make it free and use this as a way to build your email list. You will be able to monetize that list later. You will also have new loyal supporters that can turn into potential customers.

Use Memes

Memes are everywhere! Who doesn’t love a great meme?

A great meme can bring plenty of laughter to a boring day, and if used well they can also bring eyes to your hair brand. We have seen memes about every topic from culture, religion and you can even create your own about hair.

Use memes to get people not only laughing but talking about hair. Make sure to put your companies social media handle somewhere on the meme so that people will always know the source.

Brand Yourself with Humor

From our previous creative marketing strategy, we all can see that people love a good laugh. Laughing is something that people love worldwide so why not incorporate this into your hair brand and brand yourself with humor?

With so many hair brands out there selling everything from products to hair, it can be hard to stand out. It seems like everyone is doing the same thing, but is everyone using humor?

It is crazy that people don’t think to use humor when it comes to marketing their hair brand but sometimes you’ve got to think outside the box. Think out of the box when it comes to everything from shoots, videos, how you run your team, packaging, etc. Think out of the box by using humor.

One company that does this well is Chic Fil A. Chic Fil uses cows frequently in their marketing, but they don’t sell beef all they sell is chicken. They use pictures of cows holding up posters saying “EAT MOR CHIKIN” as a humorous way to market their chicken-based brand.

I so needed to read this article!! Grassroots marketing is not dead and because so many people have seemed to forget about it should be a reason that I should implement it in my marketing at least 25% of it! Also, I haven’t thought of using the videos as a contest! That would super drive a contest. As far as marketing for my future hair business I would use more videos of the hair itself. Being worn and used. The video of the hair being put together on the private label extension page is GOLD! I love to see how things are made and seeing them being sewn together just really shows the business is real and real people are working behind the scenes!

I think holding a video contest on let’s say the best style with hair dye like mermaid or unicorn color and the top 2 winners could receive either 3 bundles or give them a discount on their next purchase, I would do that after I’ve been in business for a little while and I would love to show customers the different textures I will have an especially like the deep wave and curly textures I want to show how they straighten, what it looks like wet and how it’s combed and a lot of people don’t show that part. I’m shy though so I don’t know if I will show my face much on camera lol

I was actually getting stuck on how else could I promote my hair business… Because it’s so many different businesses just like mine. Throwing a meme up is a new one I’ve heard and thrown a webinar is a new one also. I will try the meme and a webinar on my social media soon. Can’t wait to see the outcome. Hopefully, I attract more people !!!

Yes, who doesn’t love humor? A webinar will allow you to prove your skills to your audience. Once you prove your skills it will increase their trust in you thus increasing their likelihood to invest in your brand.

One of my upcoming marketing strategies for my hair business I plan to start is to create behind the scenes videos on hair tips, techniques, and styles and work on some short funny but informative hair skits. This blog is definitely a hitter on boosting up my goals and confidence.

Marketing has been one of my challenges since I started my business a couple months ago. I always thought and still believe it requires a lot of capital to be very effective when it comes to marketing and branding properly. However, I just read this blog post and I am very motivated to make my business grow, despite the financial restraints. There are some very great ideas for building a brand and marketing. I am especially taking into consideration using videos as a marketing strategy. I am hoping it will go as planned so that I will be able to share with the PLE family.

Yes. Grassroots. It goes through my mind here and there but the thought that stops it is everyone is online now no one wants a paper flyer but that is the reason to do it. I am glad I read this post because I am going to implement face to face contact with my hair brand. I believe that personal interaction is always the best so why not with this business. I love the idea of the video contest also. I can’t get enough of the marketing ideas and content ideas that PLE is throwing at us. It is time to catch them and run with it.

Grassroots marketing it is. I have a service business and this is how I got my first customers. I passed out flyers and door hangers. So it definitely works. I also plan on doing videos. Thank you for sharing this.
