Best Hairstyles from the Golden Globes

This year's Golden Globes was nothing short of legendary. Hollywood finally began to have the conversations many would call taboo. Every actress wore black to support the #metoo movement that has recently started to expose sexual assault and harassment in Hollywood. Oprah won the Cecille B. Demille lifetime achievement award and gave a riveting speech on what it means to be a woman.

What Are the Golden Globes?

There are a good number of award shows, and if I am honest, I thought they were all the same until like last year. The Golden Globes are not like any of the other awards shows because the audience sits at round dinner table rather than the traditional theatre scene. It is also always the first award show of the year. They are accolades given to 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, recognizing excellence in film and television, both domestic and foreign.

An All Black Affair

As I mentioned before everyone at the Golden Globes wore all black this, and they all slayed the red carpet too. But here’s the tea on why everyone was wearing all black. At first, the blackout was just speculation on social media but then on January 2, the New York Times revealed that this coordinated wardrobe was part of a more significant organized campaign called the Time’s Up Movement. Stars banded together to make a statement about the sexual assault epidemic plaguing Hollywood. Many stars even took activist as their plus ones for the award show.

Times Up Movement

I know this article is about hair, but it does not hurt to understand why this award show was so important this year. With that being said we have to discuss the Times Up Movement. The motto for this movement is “The clock has run out on sexual assault, harassment, and inequality in the workplace. It's time to do something about it.” This movement aims to end all forms of sexual harassment, assault, and inequality for women in the workplace. They have already raised more than 16 million dollars for legal defense for people have experienced harassment in their workplace.

Best Hairstyles from the 2018 Golden Globes

Okay now let’s get to the hair... I feel as though all of the actresses on the red carpet looked stunning in their all-black attire, but some hairstyles stood out all lot to me. Here are some of the best hairstyle from the 2018 Golden Globes.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Though she is known for her big and beautiful curls, Tracee threw us for a loop this year because she did not showcase her curls at all. Instead, she opted for a black silk head wrap. The turban was from Marc Jacobs and paired with a bold red lip. She covered her hair to support the movement.
“I wear black today as a “we” not as an 'I,' as a celebration of our collective power as women, as an embodiment of sisterhood, solidarity and the work being done to create structural change." -Tracee Ellis Ross

Viola Davis

Viola Davis looked like a queen showing off her natural curls with an afro. And to any who said afros could not be elegant just look at Miss Viola gracing that red carpet. She decided to rock her fro to teach her six-year-old daughter that she should embrace her natural beauty. She wore a sleek Brandon Maxwell gown paired with a cascade of pearls, and she looked utterly stunning.

Katherine Langford

Though this was Katherine Langford's first Golden Globes, she did not miss a beat with her ensemble and gorgeous hair. From the front, this style looks like any other loose wave style, but when turned to the side Langford’s hairstyle reveal several beautiful crystal stars that make this style stand out. She wore a beautiful custom Prada gown that had jewels around the midsection that went with the hairpiece.

Susan Kelechi Watson

This whole look honestly took my breath away. Just like Viola Davis, Susan Kelechi Watson also wore an afro but with a more edgier spin. Vernon Francois styled her hair, and it is just a simple twist out. He used his bespoke line to create the twist as well. She wore a stunning wide-leg crystal jumpsuit by Monsoori.

Giuliana Rancic

The E host looked beautiful with a loose half braid (not sure if you could call it a braid but it was still super cute) along with a pompadour in the front. This hair-do was paired with an embellished black gown by Sherri Hill as she interviewed stars on the red carpet.

Kerry Washington

The Scandal Star ditched her usual straight hair for a long wavy bob with a side part. This look was rather simple, but her dress and shoes were the stars of the show. She wore a sequined Prabal Gurung Dress paired with Roger Vivier net booties that are unlike any shoes I’ve ever seen.

Kendall Jenner

Even though we are all still wondering where Kylie was at Kendall looked gorgeous on the red carpet. She rocked an edgy long bob with a middle part. But her simple hairstyle was perfect for her stunning Giambattista Valli tulle dress. You can say what you want about the KarJenner clan, but you have to admit that those ladies know how to slay every and any occasion.

Millie Bobby Brown

Millie Bobby Brown is just adorable, she might be thirteen years old, but she slays wherever she goes. She wore a satin Calvin Klein by Appointment dress. For her hair, she had what looked like a simple bun styled by Blake Erik, but when seen from the back she has three cornrows leading into the bun.

Issa Rae

I just have to say that I love me some Issa. She, of course, wore her natural hair which is one of the things that I love about her. She had a slicked-back updo with what looks like a twisted up bun in the back. To go with the hair, she wore a gorgeous Prabal Gurung Chiffon dress paired with an emerald necklace.

Angelina Jolie

I know some of you would argue that her look is rather simple, but I loved it! She gave off old Hollywood glam vibes with the simple updo, and I think that this look fit her. But this simple look made her outfit stand out even more. She wore a beautiful Atelier Versace gown. Her simple do not take away from the extravagance of those fluffy sleeves.

Speak Your Truth

When Oprah gave her speech the biggest take away was "speak your truth". At the end of the awards, most women walked away fierce in their hearts in addition to their flawless dresses and hairstyles. They showed out! Which of these Golden Globe hairstyles was your favorite? Are there any that we didn't mention that caught your eye? Let us know by leaving a comment!
