8 Reasons Why Women Buy Hair Weave

Lets Face It, Ladies Love Weave!

“You have such pretty hair, why are you wearing a weave?” As a woman who loves to experiment with her hair, I have been asked this question countless times.

And although I am not a huge fan of explaining myself there were a few times that I have found it necessary to do so.

However, I could never seem to articulate my reasoning behind investing in a weave. In fact, I recently went on a 6-month break from all forms of weave and extensions just because my aunt asked me to.

The break, although tortuous at times, allowed me to do some reflecting on why women buy hair weaves in the first place.

If one of these reasons resonate with you, I encourage you to take pride in your choice to buy and rock your 20″ bundles! I do.

#1: Give Your Real Hair a Break

If you are a natural haired girl and your find yourself with a strict washday routine and you are always twisting, braiding, or knotting your hair every three days, then you probably buy a weave to give your over manipulated hair a 4 to 6-week break.

The same break can benefit women who press their hair every two weeks.

Often referred to as a protective style, weaves enable you to give your natural a break from all of the styling elements.

#2: Protection From Heat Damage

Along those same lines, a weave installed with a closure or frontal piece can enable you to use the heat tools at any time.

You do not have to worry about temperature settings or how many times you run your flat iron through because it is not your real hair.

So don’t let the steam from the shower rain on your parade.

Weaves are perfect for the woman looking for a super sleek style on a daily basis.

#3: You Are Going Through “THE TRANSITION”

Some women may buy a weave if they are going through the transition from relaxed hair to natural hair.

A hair weave installation can help you to conceal your hair and enable it to grow in peace while you still have straight pieces of hair. The weave will provide you with a comfortable everyday style until your natural hair grows out to a length that you feel is acceptable to rock once you have trimmed off your straight pieces.

This is perfect for anyone who has just gone through with the BIG chop and needs to buy some time for their hair to get out of an awkward growth stage.

#4: Cover Hair Loss or Bald Spots

Whether it’s alopecia, chemo, or stress that is making your hair fall out in clumps, a weave can be used to cure those insecurities.

Many women purchase hair weaves to provide the head full of hair that they used to have or always wanted.

#5: Manageability

Weaves with a looser texture of hair are sometimes easier to manage than our natural hair textures.

A Malaysian textured hair weave is a lot easier to comb through my own coils.

Purchasing a weave enables an ease of styling that also provides you the opportunity to hit the snooze button on your alarm clock because you don’t have to spend extra time styling your natural hair.

#6: Provides Instantly Thicker Hair

There are countless brands of hair care products that promise thicker after after weeks of regular usage.

In a more timely approach to solving the curse of thin hair, some women may buy weaves to sew tracks in between their natural hair.

This styling method gives the illusion of thicker, fuller hair in a matter of hours.

#7: Provides Instantly Longer Hair

Similar to the reason above many women purchase hair weave to give them instant length!

With the average extension carrier selling hair lengths from 10″ to 32″, you can take your hair from shoulder length to waist length with four bundles of hair weave.

You can use this method of length illusion on both silky straight and kinky textures. If your leave out (the top of your hair that would not go under a weave) is a naturally curly texture that you have no intentions of straightening, you can purchase a weave that mirrors your curl pattern and sport an afro that is as big as your heart desires.

Furthermore, if the hair weave is sewn in by a gentle but firm hand with optimum length retention in mind, you can also continue to grow your natural tresses underneath the style.

#8: Style Experimentation or a New Look

Similar to science experiments, making a rash decision about your hair can leave you with the wrong color for your skin tone, the wrong shortcut for your face shape, or a combination of the two.

Weaves allow women to experiment with a new cut, color, or style without requiring a full on commitment.

Color: Unprocessed aka virgin hair, is colored easily, if not easier than your natural hair.

The recent “unicorn hair” trend, which results when you dye your hair to a rainbow of pastel hues, is a testament to that. The hair must go through many damaging steps to achieve the look including being stripped of all natural color.

I have a natural jet black hair color that will not be colored anything other than orange.

Every coloring process leads my hair to a color on the Ronald McDonald color spectrum. However, after purchasing a hair weave, I have successfully been able to go from jet black to honey blonde seamlessly with a good weave and a professional colorist.

Cut: If you have been scrolling through your social media timeline, then you know that the short wavy bob is on trend this season.

For those ladies whose real hair is almost BSL (Bra-Strap-Length) a weave will allow you to keep your length and still participate in the trendy style.

Choose The Best Weave For You!

All of these reasons might move you to finally get a weave. When choosing a weave, you’ll want to ensure that you chose the best one for you. When I first decided to get a weave, I made the mistake of choosing just any old kind of hair. I had no idea that choosing hair was one of the most essential parts of wearing a weave.

There are plenty of hair brands out there begging for you to choose them. However, you need to be thorough when searching for hair to use when creating your best weave look. You don’t want to choose hair that’ll give you issues only after a few days and weeks. I remember this one time, I chose hair that made me break out in a rash!

It was awful. So that you don’t have to deal with that, check out this short list on choosing the best hair for you.

Do your Research!

Doing the research is so important when it comes to choosing hair for your weave. Obviously, Private Label Extensions is a great place to purchase extensions. Not only are they high quality, they are also long lasting. They have all sorts of styles available to choose from so you never have to wear the same look.

Check your allergies

Are you allergic to certain types of hair? Most extensions are mixed with synthetic hair or overly processed hair that isn’t entirely human. A lot of places state that their hair is human only for it to be more than 50% synthetic! Don’t get caught up in the hype.

Make sure you choose hair that won’t break you out. Make sure you talk to a professional as well. A professional allergist will lead you in the right direction!

Don’t be Fooled by the Price Tag

A lot of people think that more expensive hair means that it’s better, but that’s not always the case. As mentioned before, some places give you synthetic hair despite advertising human hair. Good quality hair doesn’t have to be expensive. I’ll repeat, good quality hair doesn’t have to be expensive!

At Private Label Extensions, we give you good quality hair at a reasonable price. The price tag on hair doesn’t determine how great the hair will be. In fact, when shopping, ignore the price tag when making a decision. Unless, of course, the price is ridiculously high!

If you follow these three tips, you shouldn’t have too much of an issue when it comes to choosing hair. Hopefully, you’ve already chosen the reason why you’re going to wear a weave and live your best life! Don’t be afraid to think outside the box.

Weave Texture

Summer curls and waves are an unexplainable urge that hits almost every woman on the planet when the sun comes out.

A weave can enable you to change the texture of your hair if your strands do not cooperate with highly advertised styling techniques; whether you want your straight hair to exude that sea breeze beach wave look, or a bushel of curls a weave can help you get there.

Why Do You Love Hair Weave

Everyone has an opinion and if you find yourself explaining your personal choice to buy hair weave, feel free to start and finish your debate with one of the reasons listed above; do not be ashamed of wanting to look your best and enlisting a little help to do so.

Add to the list by leaving a comment below on why you buy weave bundles!

I like that you explain how you can give your natural hair a break from all of the styling elements by getting weaves. This would be a great way to keep it healthy and strong while also looking beautiful. When choosing weaves, it would probably be a good idea to ensure you choose a salon that has top-of-the-line options so that they’ll last and work properly so that you won’t damage your natural hair.

I enjoyed this article for a few reasons the first one explains the reason we wear weave it’s not about lack of hair but we enjoy the different looks we can achieve! Personally being a stylist, I run into a lot of women who invest in their hair! Mostly I deal with the women with hair loss and to know that they can achieve a look without having to hide the spots it gives women the confidence that they need. As a stylist, I’m always learning new techniques to help my clients and weave sometimes is a confidence builder when you meet a client with hair loss they are emotional and sometimes very shy when it comes to doing their hair! So I’m proud to say weave has come along way and is used for more than just inches. For some women, this weave is a restorer! They are able to rock there weave with confidence.

Great article. This definitely provided great concepts on the “why” consumers purchase weave. And good quality doesn’t have to be so expensive. I think that was a great point as well.

Not bragging at all my hair is about 16inches, I wear a weave! I love a good looking weave. I use weave to add length to my own hair. I have made clip ins to remove whenever. I love to have the flexibility that comes with weave. I color bundles to keep from coloring my own hair. Of course, I love my own hair texture and proud of what I have but I love the versatility that comes from wearing a great quality weave!

Love this article because multiple reasons why we wear weaves and I started wearing weaves at 18 because I was tired of straightening my hair and damaging it with relaxers and I use to dye my hair to off black or jet black just to match the bundles. I love changing my hairstyle a lot and it can enhance your look and to me wearing a weave I feel more confident but I am learning to love my natural hair too and giving my hair a break for one to three months I think is the best and I normally wait a month in between so my hair can be wild lol. But there are negatives to wearing weaves but I think if you treat your own hair and the extensions you will be happy with the results. Just don’t leave a sew in for 6 months because it could look really bad.

Why we buy hair weave because it changes our ego and alters our personality! We become more vibrant, confident and less shy when we get hair weave in our heads LOL Sometimes, I will act very high class when my hair is done. Hair Weave gives you a chance to try things you would never try, alter your looks with the seasons or just to keep from combing your natural hair. There are 100 different reasons why. But one speaks above all the others because nappy hair doesn’t hold good curls, but good hair extensions will.

Weave makes a fashion statement for women of all colors. Weave fits your own personal style. Some women use it to save time, to look/feel better about themselves, they also wear from a health problem involving hair loss, but it’s protective to your “natural” hair. How can women feel comfortable without weave in their hair?

I really really loved this article because it examples that just because you have hair, or don’t have hair it’s for EVERYBODY and it’s so many different reasons besides the main ones!!! I get so tired sometimes trying to explain to people that those stereotypes are just stereotypes and you can do whatever you want with your hair! I mean you do purchase it anyway so, either way, it’s YOURS lol but even though I will continue to express the many this you can use weave for every time someone asks just to set the record straight!!!

Awesome article! I am often told, “I would never wear hair extensions if I had your hair. ” Also some black women are criticized for wearing wigs. But the struggle is real, especially with my 4C natural hair. Mainly because we were often taught at an early age that straightened or relaxed hair is what we should be striving for. Also Sometimes we just need a break or want to try a temporary different look. Thankfully practice and more practice has helped me with my natural hair so I don’t struggle as I did at when I first transitioned. I enjoy sometimes switching up my looks and think it’s a woman’s prerogative to do so. Thank you for your article.

Wearing weaves are a personal choice as anything else.
Styling, straightening and coloring your hair constantly can cause lots of damage, especially if you are doing it yourself with consulting or using a stylist.

I use weaves and it’s a great protective style. I can achieve many different looks without damaging my natural hair. I can try different cuts such as bangs, bobs and blunt cuts without me having to straighten and cut my hair. It’s just so great for experimentation.

As the article mentioned you can add volume, length and change your texture.

But remember to still get your hair washed and conditioned at the salon while you have a weave in. Weaves are great but if not maintained or taken care of can cause hair thinning and baldness.

You also want to use a stylist that doesn’t braid overly tight, especially for your edges as this can cause damage to your hairline. Also, someone who can sew the hair in properly, because if it’s not sewn in properly it can become loose or when you are trying to remove the weave you can accidentally cut your own hair or it can take forever to cut out as the person has overly sewn in the hair.

Lastly choosing the right hair is so important. I remember a few years ago, I didn’t know much about weaves. I purchased hair and went on my trip to Mexico. Hair was fine until I decided to go for a jet ski ride!
Lol, I came back to the hotel some of the hair had knotted up into a big ball that I couldn’t comb out. I had to cut some out. Luckily it happened in such a way where I could just style it back. Lesson learned the hard way I only purchase hair now that has great reviews and I also ask certain questions from the vendor, prior to my purchasing.

This article definitely helps me to better understand that just because the weave has a high ticket price does not necessarily mean the quality of the hair is better. I have experienced this first hand as I have purchased hair at 400+ dollars and the hair tangled, shed extremely bad, and did not take color well. This is also one of the reasons that propelled me to launch my hair business. When women buy weave they also think about how much damage coloring your hair can cause so that’s why a lot of women opt-in for weave including myself. Weave has also helped me keep my appearance up to par when doing the big “chop”. When I made the leap of faith and had the courage to cut all of my hair off weave/ wigs definitely help me boost my confidence and not be uncomfortable when going thru the ugly duckling phase. Of course, there is a limit of how long you would want to keep these installed to help promote healthy growth to your natural hair and not increase breakage. This article definitely gave me a better insight and to better understand the psychology of why women ultimately buy weave instead of wearing their natural hair. This article also helps to create a strategy that will encourage women to buy hair products from you especially after hair loss or the big chop.

This is exactly why I wear weaves. I wear weaves to give my natural hair a break I wear weaves when trying to get through the awkward stages of my short natural hair. I also wore weaves to cover my heat damaged. It’s a great protective style.
