Best Hair Care Products for Kinky Curly Hair Extensions

Your Kinky Curly Hair Extensions Are Your Baby

Kinky curly hair extensions are very popular and serve many purposes.

You can wear these for a tropical vacation; you can wear them with your natural hair to add volume and even make a u-part wig. Although the kinky curly extensions are not live breathing hair follicles, people sometimes assume you don’t have to care for them as such: wrong! Check out these products and tips to help you care for your kinky curly hair extensions

We treat our extensions like they are our babies, or at least we should. Because of its nature, this texture needs extra care. When you are caring for a baby you give it nurturing in many forms; think of hair care the same way.

There are tons of products out there that work wonders on kinky curly extensions so where do we start?

Let’s start by acknowledging what kinky curly extensions need the most; moisture.

Feed Your Kinky Curly Extensions

Yes! You read it right, feed your extensions moisture. Moisture is the key to maintaining this type of hair extensions. Due to the thickness of this hair texture, it can sometimes become dry and not retain much moisture.

Products that help the hair retain moisture is vital in the hair care process. Using products that help moisturize your kinky curly hair extensions will also help them to become more manageable with time.

If your hair extensions reach a point where they become hard to brush or comb through, know that the purpose of moisturizing products is to help to seal and save the hair texture.

Here are some of my favorite products that will feed your extensions the moisture they deserve:

OGX’s Coconut Curls Shampoo

This product works magic on kinky curly extensions. It’s a lightweight product as well. Whenever I’ve had any curly extensions, this has left the curls moisturized and shiny. This product not only helps restore moisture but helps with frizz as well.

The entire coconut curl line works well for kinky curly hair extensions and helps to keep the curls/coils tight but bouncy.

Aussie Miracle Curls

This hair care line is another line of products that I have used and loved! I have noticed that Aussie works best on thicker hair.

I have used this even on my natural hair, and it still leaves my coils refreshed and moisturized. With some products, you have to use a lot of product to see the benefits but not with this one.

Because of how well they formulate their products you won’t need to use a lot of their products which keeps you from having to replace then products so often.

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle

This conditioning treatment can be used twice a week to help revive your kinky curly extensions if they become dry and brittle. Even if you aren’t experiencing dryness of your hair extensions, still use this proactively and see the benefits.

Of course, there are way more products to choose from; so explore and don’t be afraid to test products out.

Hair care doesn’t stop at shampooing or conditioning.

Styling products matter too, make sure you still are using products that don’t weigh your extensions down in between washing and conditioning.

Oil Is Your Friend, But Less Is More

I know what you are thinking, “Doesn’t oil make the extensions heavy and greasy?” Of course, when you use too much oil, the extensions can become heavy and weighed down. That is why less is always more.

Although the extensions aren’t alive, they still need some extra moisture and nutrients that oil can provide.

Every oil’s primary purpose is to add moisture yet there are two that seem to be the best for kinky curly hair extensions: coconut and argan oil. If you ever noticed, these are the most used oils in natural hair products. Thicker hair absorbs these two oils the best, so you will only need a little to get the job done.

Coconut oil is perfect for the keeping the ends of your kinky curly extensions intact. Coconut oil prevents tangling which can cause the hair to get caught in your brush or comb when you detangle. This oil has a lot of hype because of how natural coconut oil and its many uses.

Because of its heaviness, you do not need a lot to moisture your extensions. This works best on damp hair and as a conditioning treatment.

Argan oil helps get rid of the frizz and dryness that can be caused by daily wear and tear. You might see it in stores as Moroccan oil, and that is just argan oil mixed with other oils, still, use it.

It is a thinner oil so you can use more of this on your kinky curly extensions. You can even use this oil while the hair is dry. This oil is best used on the length of the hair, not the ends. Use a small hand full right before you use any styling product.

Experiment to Find The Best Products That Work For Your Hair

I listed some great products, and I stand by them so ladies, try them out!

You want to stay away from heavy products that will weigh down your extensions. When they are weighed down, they tend to become dirty more quickly which means you will have to wash more frequently.

There is a thing as over washing, and this leads to drying out the hair extensions, and who has time for that right? So try the mentioned products and explore to find the perfect fit for your kinky curly extensions. Hope this helped!

I can’t wait to recommend some of these products for my curly clients natural and extensions. Yes, you definitely have to find a healthy balance of products to have amazing curls. I only recommend the curly extensions that I retail (from PLE) to clients who I know will get the most out of their investment and willing to give the hair the TLC it needs.

I love the products mentioned, even though I try to stay away from store bought products, I would definitely consider using these on my extensions. Seems as though they give the amount of moisture they needed to keep your hair healthy and strong. These are also great to use as suggestions, as “products to use” when selling extensions.
