Understand Social Media a Little Better

I broke down how I view each social media platform in a book I wrote, and I want to share those insights with you before we get too deep into Twitter itself. Here’s my take on each social media platform:

Facebook

In my opinion, it is like a class reunion. You can go to Facebook and catch up with old friends as well as find love ones or people that you lost connection with over the years. From a consumer, standpoint remember that the individuals on Facebook are older so when your marketing makes sure that it is targeting the right target market.

Instagram

This platform is like an editorial magazine. We know that images on Instagram need to be clear and of high quality to engage your ideal client and convert them into a buyer. The ideology goes right along with the idea of the perfect consumer that is on Instagram. Instagram's consumers are younger and want things that are more visually appealing.

Twitter is The After Party

Think about after an award show when all of the celebs get together to kick back Network and have a good time.

Twitter is one of the perfect platforms for individuals companies organizations to connect with influential people and influencers exceptionally easily. It's like me stepping up Daymond John's office door, knocking on it, and giving him a message directly.

Even if these high-profile individuals and companies have someone managing their Twitter account, you still can get your messages directly to them in a more direct way.

Let's Get Down to Twitter Business

Now that I've given you my breakdown of the three top social media platforms that I like to use I'm going to go now a little bit deeper into Twitter and how you can use the features to get the visibility you desire for your hair extension company.

I won’t go into analytics in this article, but it would be good for you to document your stats for your page before you put any of the tips below into action.

Setting Up Your Twitter Business Profile

When setting up your Twitter profile for your business don't overthink it and stop getting nervous about the process.

It doesn't have to be perfect it just needs to be complete, so the people know where they can go to find out more about your hair company and how to contact you. You don't have to have everything perfect to get started so don't get caught up in that Perfection syndrome. As the saying goes done is better than perfect.

Here are some easy to follow steps to help you create your business profile. You'll finish in less than 15 minutes so let's get started:

1. Decide on your Twitter username

This is also known as your handle. It can be up to 15 characters, and you want to make it something that's easy to remember.

The key point when creating your handle is that you need to search first to see if anyone else is using it and I don't suggest if someone else is using it that you add maybe a different letter or number to the handle because it's still can cause brand confusion. Make sure that you think long about your handle or username so that it is easily identifiable as you and your company.

If you find out that someone is using the handle that you wanted, choose another one, and trust me if you think hard enough you'll be able to come up with something cool.

2. Your profile picture is critical

It should convey very clearly what your company is all about.

To be honest, I get irritated when I see hair companies, and the only thing they have as a profile picture is a wig or a bundle of extensions, and that's their profile picture, no not if you want my coin.

Your profile picture should give a person an idea of what your extensions look like when they are finished so remember you want not only to sell the product that you want to sell an experience or a lifestyle to a potential customer.

In my opinion, a nice profile picture is one of a man or woman wearing the hair extensions you sell in a lifestyle photo

3. Your bio is about a hundred and sixty characters

This is a space where you tell people about your company.

I would say to you not to take your bio extremely seriously and add personality to it. You can go with a very buy the book biography, and of course, it tells people what you do.

But there's no energy there's no zest there's no personality included in it to make sure that when you create your bio, you're having fun.

4. Put up your header image

This is going to be a space where you can do a little bit more promotion or marketing for your extension company.

Canva is fantastic for creating any graphics that you need for your business, and with the release of Canva 2.0, it's even better. So don't ignore this section. Use it to share vital information or a promotion to talk about something going on with your company.

5. Invest in a pinned tweet

A tweet that stays at the top of your feed at all times. If you have an event coming up or releasing a new promotion a pinned tweet is a great way to keep that information at the top of everyone's mind when they visit your account.

Strategies to Grow your Hair Business

If you want to be at the top of people’s minds, you need to be on Twitter! It’s obvious Twitter has a lot of influence, so it only makes sense for you to use it to your benefit.

Below are a variety of suggestions on how to use Twitter to help you increase brand visibility and conversion:

1. Increase your brand visibility

The best way to achieve this goal is to remain consistent on the platform. Discover new ways to communicate with your target market as well as give your feedback on tweets that are relevant to your expertise.

2. Use Twitter to provide excellent customer service

Twitter is the perfect platform to keep up with what people are saying about your product or service.

People will talk about their experiences with a company on social media. The best way to resolve issues quickly is to provide customer service on Twitter. By doing so, it keeps consumer confidence high and solidifies your reputation.

Three Tips to Help you Manage Customer Service

Tip #1

Use a social media scheduling platform to tracks mentions about your company

Tip #2

Handle any customer service issues in direct messaging if more information is needed. You can also ask the customer for his/her email address via direct message. Strive to respond to any mentions which require customer service within two hours if not an hour.

Tip #3

Use the “search” option to find conversations that pertain to hair extensions and join in by tweeting a response.

For example, search #hairextensions, and you will see tons of tweets from various companies and individuals. This option is a great way to get to know new people and build brand visibility for your hair extension company. Think about how you can add value to the conversations on Twitter.

Don’t just promote your company but add your knowledge expertise on extensions as well.

Tip #4

Engage influencers on Twitter but please don’t stalk them! I’m just saying!

I know some of you have goals of providing services and extensions to celebrities. The best way to do this is to follow a few of your favorites and show support for what they are doing. There will be an opportunity for you to offer services, professionally, at some point.

But in the beginning, you should be focusing on establishing relationships.

A cool way to work with them is to host an “ask me anything” Tweet session or a Q &A Twitter chat.

When hosting a chat with an influencer keep these key points in mind:

  • Your influencer should have a large and active following
  • Provide a specific hashtag for everyone to use during the chat
  • Inform your audience of what you will be discussing during the Twitter chat
  • As the host, you will prepare questions to keep the conversation going
  • As the host, you will tweet out the questions preceding them with Q1, Q2, etc.
  • Participants should respond with A1 to Q1 and so forth

Tip #5

Use videos to promote your extensions. You have the option of uploading a 140-second video, and you need to maximize those minutes to the best of your ability. Some ways to use the videos to your benefit are below:
  • Show how the hair smooths as you flat iron it
  • Answer commonly asked questions via video
  • Conduct rapid-fire questions with a trusted beauty expert

Tip #6

Check on your followers by responding to their tweets.

I know I suggest you do this as well in the above tip but this is a little bit different. You are not going to engage your followers to make sales, but to create trust and build relationships organically. I love scrolling my feed, and if someone mentions something about a trip or kids, I respond to the tweet.

One thing I am going to start doing is checking on my followers as well. Trust me this small act will go a long way. They may not want to purchase extensions now, but they may want to in the future.

Tip #7

Tweet on a consistent basis to continue the conversation with your followers.

If you are wondering how often you should tweet, I would recommend you tweet once a day and retweet or respond to at least ten posts. It may seem like a lot, but I can guarantee you it will make a difference in your visibility on Twitter.

Tip #8

Use Twitter ads to your advantage by investing a small amount of money into one and see how ads can help your business grow. Take your time and create an announcement around a particular promotion or launch. Make sure you are clear on what your expected outcomes are going to be so that it is useful and helps you achieve the desired goals.

There are many ways to promote your hair extension company on Twitter.

Check out the following options:

Promoted Tweets

are ads that look like regular tweets and appear in a user’s Twitter feed.

Promoted Accounts

are an excellent choice for companies who want to grow their followers. These ads are displayed in the “who to follow” box on the home page, search results, and Twitter feed. These accounts are labeled as promoted as well.

Promoted Trends

appear at the top of the trending topics list. They are labeled as promoted. They will show up when the trends are promoting. Couple this ad with a specific hashtag to get a bigger bang for your buck.

Tip #9

Use hashtags to help you gain more visibility for your content.

You can also link your content to a popular hashtag but make sure it is relevant to what your extension company offers. The trending box will give you good ideas on what to share with your followers.

Sprout Social is an excellent platform to use to find useful and engaging hashtags.

Tip #10

Use polls to increase engagement and stand out.

Using surveys also helps you get feedback from your followers which enables you to create solid content. It’s as easy as creating a question and then providing answer choices. Twitter also allows you to establish the timeframe you want the poll to stay active on your page.

It is 24 hours by default, but you can adjust it.

Tip #11

Live-tweeting is my favorite pastime when watching television.

Think about how much visibility you will get if you live tweet during the BET awards and rate the hairstyles worn by the celebrities. Even better, you can live tweet during the show, share a photo of a hairstyle from the red carpet.

And link your hair extensions to help people order the right hair from your company to recreate the look.

Tip #12

Add a Twitter widget to your website. It’s simple to do. Go to Twitter settings and click “create new.” The next page will allow you to customize your widget.

You can create a widget out of the following:

  • Your timeline of tweets
  • Your favorite tweets or lists you’ve created
  • You can search for a specific hashtag
  • You can adjust the size, link color and theme of your widget

Once you completely set up your widget, click the “create widget button” to be redirected to the page that will provide you the HTML code needed to embed the widget on your website.

Tip #13

Embedding tweets on your blog add a significant social element.

To embed a tweet, follow these steps:

Step 1:

Select the tweet you want to share and click on the “More” tab in the upper right corner

Step 2:

Choose “Embed Tweet” option from the drop-down menu

Step 3:

On the new page copy and paste the HTML code where you want it to appear
