How To Exercise While Wearing Hair Extensions

Tips for Working Our Wearing Weave

Having a work out with hair extensions can prove to be quite a challenge.

We’re at the end of 2017, and nearly everyone is planning on hitting the gym to start crushing their New Year health resolution, but who says you can’t slay while doing it?

Use A Wig Cap

If you wear a frontal or lace front wig, adhering a wig cap under your wig can prevent sweat ruining your style. First, find a wig cap that is as close to your skin tone as possible. Cut the band off the wig cap and adhere to the cap in front of your hairline. Once it dries, you can apply your wig or frontal as usual. If you usually don’t sweat a lot, using a wig cap can prevent sweat from reaching the lace.

Let Go Of the Got 2 B Glue Gel

Lot’s of people love to use Got 2 B Spiking Gel as a lace adhesive to hold their frontals and closures down. This gel is super sticky and dries similar to glue. It dissolves with water and is easy to remove at home. The only issue is, it dissolves with water. Your frontal might be laid and slayed when you leave your house, but as soon as you break a sweat while working hard in the gym, the gel breaks, and your lace will start to lift. We all know lifting lace is a huge no-no. We recommend headband wigs for a glue-less wig but if you have none of these then we have the perfect fix!

Instead of Got 2 B, try using a waterproof lace bond like Ghost Bond or Cling. To achieve a gym-proof hold, apply two layers of adhesive. The first layer should be thin. Remember, less is always best when it comes to lace glue.

Use a blow dryer on the cool setting to dry the adhesive to a tacky texture. Then proceed to apply a second layer of adhesive, and dry until tacky. Apply your lace to the adhesive, and try to avoid touching the wet lace with your fingers. Once the adhesive completely dries, you are all set to give it you're all in the gym!

Got Leave Out?

Product, product, product! Having leave-out can be super tricky, but with the proper product, you can prevent hair reversion. Try using Aveda Brilliant Anti-Humectant pomade on your leave-out before straightening it. This balm works wonders, especially on natural hair. The balm is formulated with castor oil and rice bran oil to repel moisture from your hair. A little goes a long way, so use a pea-sized amount and emulsify in your hand before application. Apply to damp hair before blow-drying.

Two Cornrow Braids

Split your hair in half and braid each side down going backward. You can use a hair rubber band on the end of the braid to hold the braids and wear them down, or you can twist each braid into little buns on each side. Corn braid styles are cute and functional by keeping hair out of your face.

Top Knot Bun

If you have a 360 frontal install or a full lace wig, you have the option of wearing your hair in a topknot bun or high ponytail. After you have secured your lace around your head, dampen the roots of the hair and brush it up into a high ponytail. Make sure to secure it with a good hair tie to ensure it does not pop. At this point, you have created a high ponytail. To create a topknot bun, simply take the hair from the ponytail and wrap it around itself until you create a beautiful, tight bun. Use bobby pins to secure the hair.

Slap It

Have you heard of the Slap also known as the Satin Lined Cap? This revolutionary cap is lined with satin on the inside to provide a protective barrier between your hair and cotton on the cap. The Slap is an excellent alternative to a cotton headband because it protects your edges while preventing sweat from reaching your hair. The cap is large enough to fit your long extensions in it, and because it looks like a traditional beanie, it is stylish enough to wear out. The Slap comes in a variety of colors to match your work out outfits!

Wear Extensions That Match Your Curl Pattern

If all else fails, wearing extensions that match your curl pattern is a fool-proof way to keep your hair looking cute at the gym. Private Label Extensions has a variety of curl patterns, from Body Wave all the way to Kinky Afro texture. Be sure to pick a color and texture that most closely matches your curl pattern, that way when/if your edges sweat out, it will blend seamlessly with your natural hair.

What To Shampoo Your Hair With

If you’re a gym junkie, you may have the desire to wash your hair more often to remove sweat and odor. Using a shampoo that is too harsh can dry out your extensions and decrease the life of your hairstyle. It is super imperative to use quality products on your hair. Here are some recommendations for the curl pattern.

Try not to shampoo your hair on a daily basis as it can strip your hair of moisture. If you must, try cleaning your scalp with a mixture of 1 part Apple Cider Vinegar and two parts water. Apply the mixture to your scalp for about 15 minutes before you shower. Massage your scalp thoroughly and rinse with warm water. This is great to do in between washes to keep your scalp fresh and clean.

Figuring out what works for you during your workouts can be a trial and error experience, but I hope this article helps you find a method fast.
