The Hair Boiling Method: The Ultimate Restoration for Hair Extensions

How to Bring Your Weave Back to Life!

When you spend your hard-earned money on extensions, the purpose is to wear for a while, but most people wear them until it gets matted and dry.

They don’t come with an expiration date though so typically people go off of how it looks. Then at that point, they toss them out. But what isn’t clear is the fact that those extensions and wigs have so much more life to them.

Ladies, your extensions are not dead! You spend that money on purpose, and it’s important to make sure you fulfill that purpose! Extensions get old just like our real hair does. When that happens, we wash and condition our hair, and then we’re back to a clean slate. Our extensions should go through that same process.

So have no worries, I am here to walk you through how to bring your old wigs and extensions back to life by just boiling them in hot water!

Boil Hair

I know what you’re thinking; clearly, chicken is not the only weird thing that gets boiled. But it just works for some people.

The purpose of boiling hair is to restore old wigs and extensions. A lot of us have thrown away many extensions because of how they looked. Which would make sense to do, especially after you’ve had them for a long period?

But the boiling method will save you in the future. All you will need is a pot and some Silicon Mix. Silicon mix is a crème based deep conditioner. It helps add shine, moisturizes, add bounce and so much more to extensions. The cost of the product is cheap too. Now, this product doesn’t necessarily have the best smell to it. It can be a little on the strong side so just be sure to add your favorite conditioner to your extensions when it's time to style.

What you will need to do is begin to boil a pot full of water. Your pot size should depend on how big your extensions are. The size matters because you want to make sure the extensions get saturated fully into the water. No strand should be left behind! Once you boil your water, scoop out about three spoons full of the silicon mix and drop into the water. Stir the product around and then place your wig in, the boiling mixture. Again, make sure all pieces of the extensions are soaking.

Leave your extensions in the boiling water for about 15 to 20 minutes. If you like, you can also put a lid on the pot. Once the time is up, use a kitchen utensil to remove the extensions and place it on a towel to dry overnight. The next day, the hair should be totally dry. At that point, you can style your extensions as normal.

Benefits

As simple as this technique is, it has some really good benefits. Who would have thought boiling water would have such an impact in the beauty world, but it does.

Saves Money

Hair extensions can be very pricey depending on whom you get it from and the quality of hair it comes in.

Because of that, the boiling method is allowing you to save your money from buying new extensions. Most people purchase new extensions every six to eight weeks, but now they can last longer. This method allows people to get their money's worth.

Brings Alive Old Extensions

I don’t know about you but I know I have some old wigs in the back of my closet that now only get used for Halloween purposes!

If you’re like me, you deeply wish that you could reuse them and bring them back to life, as it was when you first purchased them. With the boiling method, you will be able to. Take all your old extensions and recreate them!

Works on All Hair Types

Oh, you didn’t think this hair care method only worked on human hair, did you (Check out this article: human hair wig care)? The boiling method works on all hair types!

I knew someone who bought a $12 synthetic wig and of course, it didn’t last longer than two seconds, but they were able to revive it by boiling it. Their wig had a few matted areas, but they simply cut them out and styled as normal.

Even their synthetic hair looked moisturized and conditioned just as it would with human hair. This boiling method does not discriminate.

Additional Styling Option

The boiling method doesn’t just restore extensions, but it also helps with styling as well.

For example, if you were in a rush and you wanted your wig to be curly, you could easily roll it with Flexi rods and dip it in the boiling water for a few minutes, and then you’ll have a head full of curls! I know there have been plenty of times that I woke up wishing I had popped some rollers in my wig so it could set overnight. Well, the days of wondering are long gone!

Also, a lot of people don’t always want to curl their hair in the morning. So the boiling option makes life a lot easier when it comes to styling.
