About our Braiding Hair

Your braids should look good on day one and still look good on week six. That's the difference human hair makes.

At Private Label Extensions, our braiding hair collection is built around one thing: real, 100% human hair that blends seamlessly with your natural hair, lasts longer than synthetic alternatives, and gives you the flexibility to heat style, color, and refresh your look without starting over.

Bulk Human Braiding Hair — Loose, weft-free strands of 100% human hair designed for box braids, knotless braids, boho styles, goddess locs, and more. Because there's no weft or track, each strand integrates directly into your natural hair for a seamless finish. With proper care, quality bulk braiding hair lasts 6–12 months and can be reused multiple times — making the investment pay off over several installs.

Feather Crochet Hair — Pre-looped 100% human hair with a lightweight, layered texture that creates effortless movement without the bulk. Installed with a latch hook through your cornrows, feather crochet hair gives you that soft, lived-in look — no braiding skills required. It's one of the fastest installation methods available, and because it's human hair, you can curl, straighten, or style it just like your natural hair.

Boho Box Braids with Human Hair Crochet Curls — The best of both worlds: pre-made braids with genuine human hair curls worked into the ends for that signature boho texture. Pre-looped for easy crochet installation, each bundle delivers the tousled, dimensional look that's all over TikTok and Instagram — without the 8-hour salon appointment. Most clients need 3–5 packs for a full look.

Braiding Hair FAQs

What is human braiding hair?

Human braiding hair is 100% real human hair sold in loose bulk form specifically for use in braided protective styles. Unlike wefted hair (which is sewn in) or synthetic braiding hair (which is made from plastic fibers), bulk human braiding hair is loose, unattached hair that a stylist braids directly into your natural hair.

It styles, moves, and blends exactly like your own hair because it is real hair. Private Label carries bulk human braiding hair in over 20 textures for knotless braids, boho styles, and crochet installs.

What is the difference between bulk braiding hair and feather crochet hair?

Both are formats of human braiding hair, but they install differently. Bulk braiding hair is loose hair that gets braided directly into your natural hair strand by strand — the foundation of knotless braids, box braids, feed-in braids, and boho goddess styles.

Feather crochet hair uses an invisible string design to loop pre-separated strands through cornrows with a crochet needle — no braiding of the extension hair itself, just looping. Bulk hair gives you more control over braid tightness and density. Feather crochet installs faster and creates a seamless, knotless root finish. Both are available in the same textures and are 100% human hair.

Should I use human hair or synthetic hair for braids?

For any style where the curly or wavy texture is visible — boho braids, goddess braids, feather crochet installs — human hair is the clear choice. Synthetic curly hair mats, tangles, and loses its shape within 1–2 weeks, especially when exposed to water, sweat, or humidity.

Human hair holds its curl pattern, can be washed and conditioned, and lasts the full wear period and beyond. The one area where synthetic hair still makes sense is as the base braiding hair in mixed installs — the synthetic braid itself, with human hair added for the curly ends. All Private Label braiding hair is 100% human.

How much braiding hair do I need?

It depends on the style and your desired density. For knotless or box braids, most installs use 3–6 bundles depending on braid size and head size. For boho braids using bulk hair for the curly ends, most clients use 2–3 bundles (200–300g) for a full style, with an additional bundle for extra fullness.

For feather crochet installs, most clients use 2–3 sets (200–300 pieces) for a complete hairstyle, plus an additional bundle for maximum density. When in doubt, buy one more bundle than you think you need — it’s better to have extra than to run short mid-install.

What textures are best for boho braids?

Deep wave and water wave are the most popular textures for boho braids because the curl pattern fans naturally along the braid, creating that signature loose, romantic finish. Kinky curly is the top choice for clients who want a more natural, tightly coiled boho look that blends with 4C hair.

Body wave offers a softer, more relaxed curl for a subtle boho effect. You can also mix textures in the same install — deep wave and water wave together is one of the most popular combinations right now for layered, dimensional boho looks.

How long does human braiding hair last?

As a protective style, most installs last 4–8 weeks with proper care. The hair itself — because it’s 100% human hair — can be reused multiple times if removed carefully, washed, and stored properly.

Human braiding hair holds up significantly longer than synthetic alternatives, which typically mat and frizz within 2–3 weeks. With proper nighttime care (satin bonnet or scarf) and regular scalp moisturizing, most clients comfortably wear their style for 6–8 weeks.

Can I get my braids wet or go swimming?

Yes — and this is one of the biggest advantages of human braiding hair over synthetic. Human hair handles water, sweat, and humidity without matting or losing its shape the way synthetic fibers do.

For swimming, coat your braids with conditioner before entering the water to act as a barrier against chlorine and salt water, then rinse and shampoo gently afterward. Let the hair air dry completely before sleeping to prevent mildew and odor at the roots.

Can I color or dye human braiding hair?

Yes. Because it’s 100% human hair, our braiding hair can be lifted and colored just like your natural hair. This is one of the clearest advantages over synthetic alternatives, which cannot be dyed.

If you want highlights, ombre pieces, or a custom color blend in your install, human hair is the only format that makes that possible. Always do a strand test before coloring a full install.

How do I care for braiding hair between washes?

Moisturize your scalp every 2–3 days with a lightweight oil or scalp spray to prevent dryness and itching. At night, wear a satin bonnet or wrap with a silk scarf to reduce friction and keep the curl pattern intact. For curly textures like deep wave or water wave, a light spritz of water with a few drops of leave-in conditioner refreshes the curl definition without washing.

Wash your braids every 2 weeks using a diluted sulfate-free shampoo — focus on the scalp, let the shampoo rinse gently down the length, and never rub or twist aggressively.

How do I remove braids without damaging my natural hair?

Work in sections from front to back. For knotless braids, gently unravel each braid from the bottom up, applying a detangling spray or conditioner to ease any tangles as you go. For feather crochet hair, gently unloop each strand from the cornrow rather than pulling.

Once all extensions are removed, detangle your natural hair in sections using a wide-tooth comb before taking down the braids underneath. Never rush the removal process — most natural hair damage from braided styles comes from takedown, not the style itself.

Are braids a good protective style?

Yes — when installed correctly with appropriate tension. Braided styles keep your natural hair tucked away from daily manipulation, reduce breakage, and allow your hair to retain length.

The key factors for a genuinely protective braid install are: not braiding too tightly (especially at the edges), keeping your natural hair moisturized underneath, not leaving the style in too long, and using human hair for any curly or wavy sections that will be exposed to the elements. All of these reduce the risk of traction alopecia and breakage that can come from improperly installed or poorly maintained braids.
