Hair 101: The Ultimate Straight Closures Guide
A closure wig can take you through the summer–hot girl style!
A great wig is a wig that checks all your boxes, right? So, to help with our evolving sense of style and protect our hair, wigs have become the next best thing in your beauty room. Generally, there are many types of wigs.
It all comes down to the style, hair type (synthetic or natural), and even length.
However, there are two basic types of wigs: closure and frontal. These terms mean the material used at the front of the wig, basically near your forehead. In another blog post, we will dissect frontal wigs and all the juicy details.
But today, you’ll learn about Straight Closures from this comprehensive guide. To start, check out Private Label collection of the best straight closure, and select one for your cart. Then, come back here to learn all about it. Let us get started.
What Are Straight Closures?
As I have said in another blog post, lace closures are a full-coverage hair attachment that protects your natural hair. They can be added to your sew-in or a wig. To break it down even further, let’s define it in the context of a wig.
A closure wig is a type of wig that has a patch of lace at the top of a particular dimension, usually 4x4 inches. You know how some human hair wigs are center parted, side-parted, and the like, but in the center, a lace attachment with hair gives you a little freedom to part it.
For instance, the 4x4 inches lace closure means that the parting space is limited to that area. The lace patch also mimics how hair grows from the scalp to make the wig look more realistic.
We should not be able to tell right away that you have a wig on (even though it is an open secret) The lace closure can be parted in any direction, allowing you to style the wig in various ways.
That is the central selling point for closure wigs, which is why they are popular. What exactly is the point of closures? Why not attach the hair extensions to a wig cap and call it a day?
Trust me, you wouldn’t want to wear a wig that follows this pattern. A closure wig hopes explicitly to give you a natural-looking hairline. Your wig would look straight out of an old cartoon without it.
Types of Closures
It’s a whole new world with closures.
They vary in the types of parts, sizes, colors, and even hair types and textures. Whatever hair type you find, there is an accompanying closure. Let’s start with a standard classification:
Lace Closures: These are the most common and come in different lace sizes (4x4, 5x5, and 6x6). They are known for being very realistic, and you can also play them in various styles. The larger the lace size, the more parting space you have.
Silk Base Closures: A layer of silk under the lace gives a more natural scalp appearance.
Transparent Lace Closures: Transparent lace closures are made with thin, see-through lace that blends well with all skin tones.
HD Lace Closures: High-definition lace closures offer the most natural look, as the lace is ultra-thin and blends seamlessly with the scalp.
Types Based on Closure Parting
Closures come in various parts for your styling needs. The point is to offer you some versatility. The major types of parts are middle parting and side parting. However, there is an extra one: three-parting.
As the name implies, besides the two above, you have an extra one-parting style. Three parting closures afford parting on the left and right and one in the middle.
The Benefits of a Straight Closure
Aside from the immediate confidence boost you get when you have on a wig with a tremendous straight closure, there are also numerous ways they benefit you.
Check out some of them.
Protects Your Natural Hair
One of the reasons you and I wear a wig in the first place is to protect our hair. After making a protective style like cornrows, wigs are your best means of protecting your delicate tresses when you are out.
You can also avoid the daily styling, heat damage, and harsh chemical treatments. Instead, your natural hair can grow without the stress of frequent manipulation.
They Look Quite Natural
Closure wigs offer a realistic look, especially when they are correctly installed. The lace or silk base of the lace mimics your scalp and gives you a natural hairline with straight closures and parting that can be difficult to distinguish from natural hair.
Any Style You Want, You Get
Closure wigs come in various textures, lengths, and parting styles, allowing for different styling options. A closure can accommodate your styling needs if you prefer a middle, side, or free part.
Additionally, closures are available in different hair types and textures, from straight and wavy to curly and kinky, making it easy to switch up your look.
They Are Quite Low-Maintenance
Straight closures care are low-maintenance compared to other types of wigs. The smaller lace area reduces the need for frequent adjustments, and the wigs are easy to wash and style.
This will make them quite a practical option for people with busy lifestyles or who prefer minimal hair care routines.
What is the Difference between Closures and Frontals?
There is another type of wig that is quite common. Frontal wigs. One of the big questions here is the difference between closures and frontals. We have a blog post that takes the time to dissect the differences.
Once applied to the hair, the closure will have a set part that mimics a scalp, while a frontal will usually be more versatile and mimic an entire natural hairline.
Depending on their hair needs, there are pros and cons for different people.
