What Is a Body Wave Frontal?

A Body Wave Frontal is a hairpiece made of lace and human hair that is features soft, loose waves.

The frontal covers your hairline from ear to ear to create the most realistic look when wearing a sew-in or wig. The point of a lace frontal is to offer a protective style and a lot of lace for a hairstylist to work with.

The lace piece comes in 13x4 and 13x6 inches and has strands of human hair ventilated with small knots within the lace. If you look closely you can see that the lace for a frontal looks like a honeycomb. These small holes are where the hair is tied into the lace.

You can part a frontal different ways with this: Side, center, three-way, or even a ponytail. The 13x6 frontal allows a deeper part as the 6" of lace goes towards the back of your head.

The body wave hair pattern if popular because of it's effortless waves, ease of straightening and a little more style when compared to a straight hair look.

Body Wave is an easy hairstyle texture that's great for all occasions. You really can't go wrong with it.

Lace Types of Body Wave Frontals

Choosing the best lace type is going to make an impact on your frontal hairstyle.

When I first got into the hair industry in 2014 there was only a "Standard Lace" option. Standard lace is okay but not viable for lighter skin tones.

We now have a few more lace options that open up wearing lace to a broad range of skin tones without the need of excessive makeup or lace tint.

Standard Lace Body Wave Frontals

This was considered the "Standard" for many years. The darker lace color is great for darker skin tones but became a challenge when working with lighter complexions.

The good thing about standard lace is that it's value oriented and durable. Yes, this baby can last with proper care!

Transparent Lace Body Wave Frontals

Transparent lace is another great option for frontals because it offers a lighter lace that is easier to match with more skin tones.

Similar to coloring hair, it's always easier to start with something lighter and tone it darker. Transparent lace alongside some good lace tint spray will have you looking good in no time!

A body wave transparent lace frontal is a great option for those that are looking for a lace piece to match their body wave bundles. It's cost-effective, easy to work with, durable, and a great overall value.

Private Label approved!

HD Lace Body Wave Frontals

Up next is the top tier choice when looking for a frontal.

Yes, HD Lace is more expensive but it's the best for all skin tones and will create the most natural hairline!

The raw material of HD lace is about five times more expensive compared to transparent and standard lace. This drives the finished cost up about 50% in most cases. Is it worth the money? We think so!

The HD Lace is nearly invisible when installed. You will need less makeup or lace tint to manipulate the lace.

The only downside of HD lace is that it's more fragile and expensive compared to transparent.

There is nothing better than HD Lace paired with the body wave hair texture!

Body Wave Frontal Sizes

There are two popular size of body wave frontals sold at Private Label's hair stores as well as in the market in general.

The best choice is going to be based on how much lace you require for your body wave hairstyle along with your budget. More lace equals more dollars!

13x4 Body Wave Frontal

The 13x4 lace frontal is the best-selling option because it offers ample parting space, affordable, and gets the job done.

This is the best size for most woman that love frontals and want a natural look. It's easy to find with both transparent and HD lace options.

13x6 Body Wave Frontal

Okay, now we are getting into the luxurious side of lace.

Expect to pay a premium for all this lace! The 13x6 frontal is large! It will cover your hairline from ear to ear and then a considerable amount of the top of your head.

Now here's the thing. Yes, the 13x6 size is going to cost you more compared to the 13x4 but it also offers more coverage. This means you will need less body wave bundles to finish off your sew-in or wig.

Would I consider the price difference about the same? No, but it should help a little as you will need less tracks of weave to get the job done.

Private Label offers the 13x6 in HD Lace and it's the tea!

How to Get a Body Wave Look

Do you want that wavy look? There are many ways you can get it.

Of course you don't have to get our amazing hair extensions and wigs to pull off the body wave hairstyle. Although, it's highly recommended!

Perm Your Natural Hair

Perming hair involves a chemical treatment that alters the structure of your hair to create a permanent wave pattern.

This method gives you a low-maintenance, wavy look. However, the chemicals used in perming can cause irreversible damage, leading to frizz and breakage, so I do not recommend it as an every-time option.

Does this have anything to do with a body wave frontal? Nope! But we like to give our ladies options!

Using a Curling Iron

A curling iron or wand can create temporary body waves in your natural hair.

This is a quick and easy styling option for going out quickly. But it has similar risks as perming, potentially damaging your hair due to heat exposure.

If you are wearing straight hair weave you can style it to look similar to a body wave or add a twist for a loose wave hairstyle. We are all about options in styling!

Wearing Wigs

Here is where Private Label shines.

Unlike other options that potentially damage your natural hair, wavy frontals are installed seamlessly on your natural, protectively styled hair.

Want to add some color? Maybe some red hues? A frontal is a great option because when you are "over it" you can easily install a new style or color frontal.

We have so many styles of human hair wigs showcasing body wave frontals. It's the most popular choice!

Sew-In Body Wave Hair Extensions

Sew-in hair extensions involve sewing into your braided natural hair to give you length and volume.

This type of hair weave method never goes out of style and we are here for it!

This method is a long-lasting and natural-looking style. However, it requires professional installation, can be time-consuming, and can cause hair damage if not properly maintained.

Grab yourself a body wave frontal, bundles, needle, thread, and get to sewing!

As always, please consider a wonderful scalp routine before each install.

How to Rock Your Body Wave Frontal

Take it from me: You haven’t fully lived until you have rocked a body wave frontal wig or the perfect sew-in showcasing that frontal perfectly melted.

But how do you go from wearing a wig to “rocking it?”

Here are four looks gathered from top stylists.

Natural Parting

Nothing beats going “au natural.” The natural look hardly fails.

All you need to do is part your wig to the side or middle to match your natural hair growth pattern.

Then, with the help of a bit of lace tint on the lace, you can make it look even more natural. Top that off with nude makeup and your favorite dinner gown, and you are a winner.

I always recommend bleaching the knots before installing. Please do not rush the bleaching process!

Beach Waves Look

What better way to go to the beach than with the beach-wavy look?

Here, the body waves are tighter, and you need a spray to enhance them and give them a more defined, beachy texture.

Then, gently scrunch the hair while damp to encourage wave formation.

Half-Up, Half-Down Style

The beautiful thing about a lace frontal is that the entire front of the wig is open to manipulation.

So you can easily pull the top half of your hair back and secure it with a clip or tie.

This style shows off the waves while keeping hair out of your face.

Side Part Short Body Wave

Body waves can also be short and cute.

To get the most out of your look, go for a daring chop and then breeze it to the side for an extra rock factor.

Add headbands, scarves, or hairpins to your wig to enhance your look.

Accessories can add a touch of personality and style to your body wave wig.

Securing the Body Wave Frontal

So you got this frontal, now how are you going to keep that lace down?

Unlike a closure, it's hard to make a frontal "glueless." There is too much lace that covers the entire hairline ear to ear.

First, you are going to need to grab the best lace glue

Use a scarf or melt belt to keep that lace down. Use our skin prep solution for extra skin protection. Yes, we always recommend using protection!

When removing the frontal you will want to use our lace glue remover. This ensures a safe and quick way to get the frontal off your forehead.

If you are done with your body wave frontal then you can skip the next step. If you are like most of our Private Label babes that get the most out of their hair extensions then listen closely.

The best way to clean the glue off your lace frontal is the Citrus Lace Cleaner. Damn this stuff smells good! You can thank us later!

Yup, this is the best way to secure, remove, and clean your lace frontal.

How to Maintain the Curls of Your Body Wave Frontal

Before we conclude this post, you should know that rocking a body wave frontal isn’t a one-time thing.

You can wear it repeatedly with the same wow factor as the first time with proper maintenance.

A few things:

  • Say no to brush, use your fingers to tease it, or use a wide-toothed comb.
  • Use a sulfate-free shampoo to gently cleanse your hair without causing dryness.
  • Remember to be gentle while washing to prevent tangling and breakage.
  • Use a good quality conditioner to keep the hair moisturized and to help it retain its original wavy style.

Don't you dare buy a frontal and not take care of it. That's just bad hair karma! And a waste of money.

Create a hair care routine and slowly perfect it over time. This is the best way to get the most out of your frontals and other hair extensions.
