The Best Hairstyles That We Adored from Met Gala 2018

What is the Met Gala

Every year since 1948 the upper echelon of the fashion community commune for the annual Met Gala. With A-list celebrities like Rihanna, Sarah Jessica Parker all getting dressed up for the event, the event has become a big deal. Every year there is a theme for the ball and guests must dress according to that theme. The Met Gala, formerly known as the Costume Institute gala, is a fundraising ball that benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. Vogue’s Editor in Chief, Anna Wintour, has served as the chair of the event since 1995. Miss Wintour assembles a carefully crafted invite only selection of guest to attend the event, and these attendees show out. Every year fashion lovers alike are glued to their screens awaiting the fashion looks that will grace the red carpet for the gala. The event is a time for attendees to make bold statements all in the name of fashion. The Met gives new attendees a chance to prove themselves to the fashion world. Every year the fashion looks for the ball get bolder and bolder, and the themes continue to get more creative. This year’s theme was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”

Our Faves Fashion & Hair

The perfect accessory to any outfit for the Met is hair. Hair is the perfect way to take any look to the next level. Let’s go over some of our shining stars at the 2018 Met Gala’s hair looks.

Rihanna

Rihanna, Rihanna, Rihanna! How could I not start with the lady who shut it down at the Met this year? When I think of this year’s event, Bad Girl Ri Ri is the first person I think of. They might as well rename the event after her. At this year’s Met Gala Rihanna slayed per usual gracing us looking like a female version of the Pope. She wore a jeweled coat, jeweled dress, and jeweled pope-like headdress. Even her shoes and purse had jewels on them. It is not uncommon for headdresses to be worn at the Met making them a hair look all of their own and this year headdresses were pretty popular. Rihanna wore her head-dress so effortlessly with style and grace. Along with her headgear, she left out two long pieces of hair on each side of her face. The pieces of hair were gelled down in a curved s-shape. The simplicity of her hair along with her extravagant headdress took her look to the next level.

SZA

Rihanna wasn’t the only one wearing headgear, other stars like SZA followed suit. SZA rocked an angelic headpiece over her signature luscious curls at the gala. I love how you could still see her signature hairstyle through her hair look. She wore her hair in a loose half-up-half-down hairstyle with soft, loose curls, loose bangs and two tiny single braids on each side of her hair. Her headpiece was a gold halo like piece with gold jeweled stars all throughout the headdress. SZA’s hairstyle was heavenly, to say the least. You can achieve a similar look by teasing out our Curly Virgin Indian hair and styling it accordingly. This hair look will surely get you noticed!

Cardi B

I was so excited to see Cardi B attend this year’s Met Gala. It was Cardi B’s first Met Gala, and she slayed on her first try! Her look was one of the most talked about and loved celebrity looks which is rare for a first-timer. The fact that Cardi B was invited to the gala so early in her career is proof that the fashion world looks at her as a rising fashion icon. She graced the carpet in a jeweled dress along with a jeweled headpiece and her beautiful Baby Bardi bump. Like SZA Cardi B rocked a headdress as well on top of big hair. Her weave texture was very similar to SZA’s so you can use our Curly Virgin Indian hair to get this look as well. I would recommend getting at least three bundles and teasing them out to the max to rock big hair like Cardi.

Solange

Solange is the ultimate creative soul sister. She put a spin on the theme and did her own Afrocentric like rendition of the heavenly bodies theme. She also rocked headgear like many but funked it up by wearing a halo-like headpiece behind a du-rag! Talk about creative! We can always count on Solange to bring an out of the box perspective when it comes to Met Gala looks. At first glance, I didn’t even realize she was wearing a du-rag. When I stared at Solange's hair look again I realized that her halo is made up of carefully crafted blonde braids! This hair look was one of the most creative and she wore it so effortlessly. I mean who else could make a du-rag look so angelic?

Kim Kardashian

While most of the celebrities we’ve gone over wore headdresses and flamboyantly accessorized hair looks, Kim K kept it simple. Kim Kardashian graced the red carpet with a half-up half-down hairdo that looked almost like a sleek long ponytail. The simplicity of the look made it even more iconic as Kim’ accomplished the theme without having to do too much.

Zendaya

Last but not least we have to mention Zendaya. Zendaya is a chameleon when it comes to hair. She seamlessly changes her hair look up all the time and rocks a variety of hair looks. At this year's Met Gala Zendaya was one of the few that kept her hair look simple. She rocked a short beautifully colored wet and wavy auburn bob with blunt bangs. Her hair look was simple yet funky which was a great compliment to her silver armored dress. She was reincarnating the legendary Joan of Arc through this look. Zendaya slayed this year’s theme!

Major Met Gala Slayage

With all of these fantastic fashion and hair looks I cannot wait until next year’s Met Gala. This year’s hair looks ranged from extravagant to simplistic allowing there to be a hair look for all.
